What is the FFL YPG?

The Friends For Life Young Professionals Group (FFL YPG) is a group of Houstonians, ages 21-40, committed to furthering the mission of Friends For Life. We are dedicated to raising awareness about the No Kill movement, providing a safe and loving home for our animals, fundraising and providing a consistent pool of volunteers to support our shelter.

The YPG provides its members flexibility and opportunity to share their energy and talents so they can make a difference in the community. We seek to create a welcoming environment in which the young professionals will develop leadership skills and meet new friends. Our members are like-minded young professionals of all genders and backgrounds. By joining the YPG you become an agent of this powerful change for animals!

- Chair

Kaz moved to Houston last year from London and currently works at the British Consulate, which keeps her busy, so her Sundays volunteering at the shelter are her "down and happy time." She has two kittens, which were part of the deal she made with her husband when moving to the US - she gets her way!

- Co-Chair

A Houston native, Ali recently graduated from the University of Houston with her M.A. in Arts Leadership and is currently the Development Operations Manager at Houston Ballet. This past March, she and her boyfriend adopted their pup, Ella Fitzgerald, from FFL. Most weekends, you can find all three of them lounging on restaurant and bar patios around town.

- Co-Chair, Staff Liaison

Rome is the Events Coordinator at Friends For Life, mom to Elizabeth, and blogger. When she's not working on her PR/Comms degree at UofH, she's busy cooking, watching Friends, and volunteering.

- Membership Chair

Liz is a Penn State University alum who grew up in the Philadelphia area. She moved to Houston in July 2013 with her husband. When she's not at work, she spends her free time either walking her own three dogs or the dogs at the shelter. You can always count on Liz to find a dog anywhere she goes!

- Fundraising Chair

Catie is currently a research assistant at Baylor College of Medicine and a kennel assistant at Jackson's Place. While she doesn't have any of her own pets at home, currently, she volunteers most often with the cats at the shelter and gets her fill of pet loving there! She is also working her way up the behavior chain at FFL to complete the certification program.

- Events Chair

"My name is Matthew and I like dags." DJ and promoter by night and IT wiz in the Houston Medical Center by day, Matthew has been the mastermind behind the "A Little Help From My Friends" annual fundraiser benefitting Friends For Life for the last 7 years and a dog foster for just as long.

- Events Co-Chair

Rachel is a rockstar Friends For Life adoption coordinator where she fills, arguably, one of the most critical roles at the shelter - connecting animals with potential adopters. She completed her MBA in April and has two dogs and one grumpy tortie. She truly is a cat AND dog person, if anyone asks!

- Marketing Chair

Jenn currently works in Corporate Communications at Schlumberger. She joined the #FFLArmy back in 2013 when she adopted Maggie, and has been coming back ever since. When she's not walking dogs at the shelter, you can find her working with the behaviour team, conducting adoption interviews, or hanging with her latest foster.
