As a No Kill shelter, Friends For Life relies on our dog fosters to provide a safe, loving space for the dogs in our program who are looking for their forever homes. We equip fosters with everything they need to care for the animal while it’s in their care—food, bedding, wellness care, behavior training, toys, etc.—but there is no substitute for the safe homes that our incredible fosters provide.
When people reach out asking for help with an animal that they’ve found, we do ask if they can foster, and offer them resources to help them make that possible so that we can place the dog into our program. Not only does this help us take in as many dogs as possible, but it helps shape the dogs into well adjusted pets who are ready to move into their forever home faster than dogs who have to live in a shelter most times.
Jim Burwell of ‘Jim Burwell’s Petiquette’ goes into depth in this document, detailing the importance of fostering and how to build a strong foundation for your foster dog.Fostering-Rescue-Dogs
