Nov 2021 Foster Spotlight: Keri × Rox Ann!

November 10, 2021 by Friends For Life

Each month we’ll be spotlighting some of our incredible fosters and the work they do. Join us in celebrating these magnificent humans!

November 2021

Cat Foster Spotlight: Rox Ann

  1. How long have you been fostering with Friends For Life?
I think it’s been over 10 years; Salise had to answer a million questions for me back then. Grayson, the 3-legged grouch, was one of the first. We adopted him. Our first kitten was Stephen, a darling little orphan. I think Salise might remember both of them.
  2. What made you become a foster parent?
Once I started volunteering with FFL, meeting the staff and the animals and knowing I would have complete support, I decided to take the plunge.
  3. What’s your favorite thing about fostering?
Being a part of their becoming healthy and adoptable; getting all that ‘extra love’ from each of them!
  4. What has been your toughest obstacle while fostering?
Despite the best efforts from us and the staff, sometimes losing one. That is tough.

Dog Foster Spotlight: Keri

  1. How long have you been fostering with Friends For Life?
    7 years.
  2. What made you become a foster parent?
I had been working and fostering with Austin Pets Alive! since 2009 and when I moved back to the Houston area after I graduated from UT, I very much missed it and wanted to continue fostering with a No Kill shelter. I started fostering with APA! because they needed help fostering and working with the ringworm cats and I wasn’t afraid of ringworm.
  3. What’s your favorite thing about fostering?
Watching your babies grow and learn or watching a medical case get better! I mostly take either teeny tinies or medically fragile babies. So seeing them grow up or become healthy again is the best!
  4. What has been your toughest obstacle while fostering?
Because like I mentioned above, I generally foster some of the most fragile beings at FFL, so unfortunately loss is something I’m very familiar with. The worst is when you aren’t expecting it, or you’ve been fighting for so long and so hard for an animal that just doesn’t make it.
