Evelyn – Foster AND Volunteer
Evelyn could spend her retirement years doing anything. She chooses to Volunteer and Foster for Friends For Life.
What is your best memory of fostering?
My most recent experience with mama Kelly and her 4 babies was a great experience. Although we had a few challenges along the way with her babies, it was so wonderful to see them grow and develop and ultimately all go off to their forever homes. It was my first experience with a mama and her litter for such a long duration and it almost felt like Kelly and I were partners raising her babies together.
What is your favorite thing about your foster cats?
I love seeing them happy and settled in a home environment. For the babies, it is so wonderful to see them grow and develop into little cats.
What do you like best about fostering?
The majority of the fosters that I have brought home were young and they didn’t live in the shelter environment. Migee was the exception. He had started out in one of the lobby kennels at the shelter and then was moved to Petsmart where he was miserable. I brought him home as a foster and he was so much happier in a matter of days, even though he was confined to our spare bedroom. Once he was allowed to free roam, he blossomed into a different cat. It took us about a half a year to figure out that we couldn’t see him go to another home so that was our first foster fail!
What has been your biggest struggle with fostering?
Dropping them off for their sleepovers! It is so bittersweet to see them go! That’s why I have foster-failed 3 times because it is so hard to give them up.
How has life changed for you as a foster?
Well we have 3 cats that we didn’t have before I started fostering!
