Get ready for one of our most joy-sparking, creativity-packed traditions of the year. Awkward Pet Portraits returns November 28 through November 30, and we cannot wait to see the magic our artists and donors create together.
Whether your pet looks like a Renaissance noble, a cartoon gremlin, a scribbly masterpiece, or something delightfully in between, every portrait helps support the animals of Friends For Life.
How It Works
- Make a $25 donation and submit a photo of your pet.
- We send the photo to one of our volunteer Awkward Artists.
- Your artist creates a custom portrait in their own style.
- We send your digital portrait back to you, and your original artwork is mailed afterward.

New This Year: Upgraded Portraits
Most people love the chaos and surprise factor of Awkward Pet Portraits. But some donors, especially holiday gifters, like choosing the style of their portrait.
This year, donors who give $100 or more can select an artist by name for an Upgraded Portrait. We’ll share style examples from participating artists so donors can pick the vibe they want. It is still awkward, still charming, still absolutely for the animals — just with a little extra personalization.
Original Artwork Included
Every donor now receives their original artwork as part of their gift, whether the artist worked digitally or traditionally. Digital art is printed on high quality paper, and physical originals are carefully packaged and mailed.
