The dog was well groomed, and well fed. With him was a note and $60. “I know it’s not much,” the note read. “But it’ll help a bit.” His name was Dreamer. He curled up quietly, like he was still waiting for someone he knew to say goodnight.

His person was a Dreamer too. A real one. A human “Dreamer”—brought here as a kid, raised here, this country the only home they’d ever known. But because of changing immigration policies, they’re being forced to leave the U.S.
And here’s the hardest part: they couldn’t take Dreamer… because they’d have nowhere to go themselves. No home. No safe place. Nothing certain. How do you bring a dog into homelessness with you?
So they did the only thing they could. They brought him to us—hoping we could be his best shot at a new life. Hoping this place could hold the pieces of the life they had to leave behind.
We named him Dreamer. Because he deserves to live up to that name.
And if he could send them a message?

“Hey. It’s me, Dreamer.
I know you didn’t want to let go. I felt your hands shaking. I felt the way your face pressed into my fur when you said goodbye.
You gave me my best chance. You left me somewhere safe.
That $60 you left? Friends For Life made sure we got a bag of fresh food for me and my other shelter siblings!
The world out there is harsh and unfair… but in here? There’s still good. Still hope. Still people fighting for us.
So don’t give up. Don’t stop dreaming. Goodbye for now.”
Dreamer’s safe because people like you step up when it matters most.
Because when the world closed in on someone who loved him deeply, there was still a place to turn. A door to knock on. A hand to help.
That $60 they left behind? It helped us fill his bowl—and reminded us just how much love was packed into that goodbye.
But Dreamer isn’t the only one. And he won’t be the last.
There’s always another animal. Another heartbreak. Another chance to show up.
If you’ve ever wanted to push back against the unfairness—this is how.
Let’s be ready for the next Dreamer.
