Fix Houston Visits Pasadena

November 6, 2014 by Friends For Life

Fix Houston™ is a Friends For Life program that provides free spay, neuter, and vaccination services to the animals of residents in underserved Houston areas. The City underwrites all dog surgeries and, through our Fix Houston program, Friends For Life underwrites all of the cat surgeries and vaccinations.

This is the only public/private partnership of its kind in Houston history.

On October 25, we sponsored our sixth free surgery day. Residents of Pasadena, Texas, gathered in the brisk morning air with pets in backpacks, shopping carts and carriers to participate in this phenomenal project.

This project has prevented, by conservative estimates, over 5,000 births and potentially thousands of animals coming into (and likely not out of) the shelter system. Residents starting lining up as early as 3:30 a.m. just to ensure their beloved pets would be included in the surgery line up. We had surgery slots available for 20 feline surgeries to be performed that day and filled every one of them only seven minutes after the event officially began.

By providing vouchers to them to get free surgeries on another day at either a brick and mortar clinic or at the SNAP mobile unit in their neighborhood, we were able to accommodate every person who wanted services for their cat. All together, we provided 76 free surgeries for the community through this event.

How can you help this amazing program grow our bandwidth and offer even more free surgeries?

You can underwrite a single surgery, underwrite a whole surgery day or make a donation in any amount.

Every donation helps!

This forward-thinking program is getting ahead of the waves of animals that are coming into shelters by providing opportunities to pet owners who may not have money or transportation to have their pet altered.

  • Underwrite an entire surgery/vaccination day: $2500
  • Underwrite surgery /vaccinations/ microchip for a cat: $100

This is the future. And it is No Kill.
